Beautiful Sharks turns 20

This year marks 20 years since Something for Kate’s second album, Beautiful Sharks was released. Originally released on June 7, 1999, the album was the band’s first Top 10 debut (debuting at no.8). Producing the singles ‘Electricity’, ‘Hallways’, ‘Whatever You Want’ and ‘The Astronaut’, the album was soon pronounced gold and is now on its way to double-platinum sales. This album saw the band bringing along friends Augie March for the nationwide ‘Mechanical Sharks Tour’ before joining Powderfinger for their ‘P2K Tour’. The band subsequently played their first shows in North America and Japan and a slew of festival appearances around Australia including their first appearance at Big Day Out .

We have 3 prize packs of all the original CD singles from the album plus the album & vinyl copies of the ‘Electricity’ & ‘Hallways’ singles to give away.
Post your favourite track from the album & a few words about why on the bands Instagram page or the SFK Facebook to be in the running by June 7!

Paul Dempsey Gasometer shows selling out fast

Paul Dempsey’s May dates at Melbourne’s Gasometer Hotel are selling extremely fast with 2 out of the 3 shows sold out within an hour. Tickets are now only available for the Thursday 23rd May HERE

We are very excited to announce that as part of the preparation for the recording of the upcoming Something for Kate album, Paul Dempsey will perform (road test!) brand new Something for Kate songs over 3 nights at Melbourne’s Gasometer Hotel on May 23rd, 24th & 25th.

In addition to new material, Paul will of course play classic SFK songs, throw in some covers, and even take requests. ‘Loose’ is a word that’s been thrown around to describe the general approach to set list on all three nights.

This is a very rare chance to see Paul in an intimate setting that has a bit of a history;

In previous years, Paul spent many nights playing under various pseudonyms, Hawaiian Robot, Manmade Horse , Captain Pinstripe  in the front bar of The Corner Hotel road testing many now classic Something For Kate songs for the very first time. As word spread that Hawaiian Robot Et al was in fact Paul Dempsey playing brand new SFK songs, lines started to form around the block, before a weekly heaving front bar eventually became an invaluable and highly enjoyable testing ground for new material.

Tickets go on sale Thursday April 18th at midday (AEST) from here on the website.
