There’s no trickery, no hype. In just two months their third album, ECHOLALIA, has become one of the highest-selling Australian albums of 2001. Existing fans and the many new converts have found a touchstone in guitarist/vocalist Paul Dempsey’s songs.

The sense of belonging is only heightened by the sell-out live performances Dempsey, bassist Stephanie Ashworth and drummer Clint Hyndman are inspiring. Their just completed “Echo-la-la-lia” national tour saw numerous full houses, including three Metro Theatre’s in Sydney and two nights at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre.

At the same time the album’s first two singles – ‘Monsters’ and the current top 40 hit ‘Three Dimensions’ – have been cutting across all barriers on radio, igniting on bandwidths from Triple J to major commercial stations right through to the full breadth of regional radio.

With ECHOLALIA still surging in the national top 20 after nine weeks, Something for Kate will be touring Australia for the their third time this year, joining good friends Powderfinger on their “New Suburban Fables” tour in October and November.

There will be further singles and touring as summer approaches, but they’re just elements in the equation. What’s happening is larger than this and the moment it took can vary. For some it was the first time they heard the uplifting chorus of “Monsters” coming out of the car radio, for others it was seeing the band live and feeling that shiver that comes with the live rendition of “You Only Hide”.

Whenever or wherever it happened, one thing is for sure: it is happening. Don’t miss out.
